Hi, I'm Jennie Zell from Virginia Beach, VA!

I've been a candle lover since I was a teenager. Sure, I was buying cheap sticks of wax from the dollar store then, but I never thought there would be a way to take something that I already love and make some money from it!

Turns out, I was REALLY wrong. See, I've always loved drawing, too, and have been doing THAT as long as I can remember. Seven years ago I was hired as an artist by Ocean Creek Apparel, and it's been a completely rewarding career ever since.

Now, when I say rewarding, I mean the working atmosphere is great, the company isn't run by high-strung execs, and I make a decent living... but it's a very small locally owned company where no one is becoming a millionaire anytime in the forseeable future. I've got a 9-year old daughter who is in private school, wants to learn to play a musical instrument, is going to need braces, and will probably one day go to a school of higher learning. None of those are cheap.

Let me skip back a little: I first discovered these candles about a year ago when I got a sample in a Mom Pack. At first I was a little confused. I wasn't sure what to do with this little packet of wax powder (I didn't own a simmer pot) so I put the sample into my jacket pocket and forgot about it. A few weeks later the scent was still strong so I sent off a request for more information. Even un-melted, the little sample packs gave off more scent than a competitor's peppermint candle that was burning at the time!

So, after trying the product, I was well on my way to considering the business as a second career. However, I'm a former beauty products consultant. That project put a sour taste in my mouth about home distributorships. In that case I had to up-front a hundred bucks for a sample kit, and make inventory purchases in the range of $300 at a time in order to qualify for wholesale cost. My business started off slow, and long story short, I ended up with a lot of inventory and negative income.

Not only that but after a few company meetings I was starting to feel like I was not in my element. I'm not a real formal type of gal: jeans and t-shirts make up about 85% of my wardrobe. I clean up real nice, and know there's a time and place for looking polished and professional... but I disliked being told that I HAD to wear skirts to sales calls, with no dress slacks allowed.

Selling these candles so far has been a completely different experience. There are no unreasonable "price breaks," no required startup fees or purchases, and the company, though growing bigger every day, still has a small-community feel. I've had nothing but EXCELLENT support from my sponsor, Debbie, other distributor forums, and the company in general. The sales approach is very low pressure and I have much more flexibility with my promotions and marketing!
